Battletoads is a video game that was created by Rare in 1991. The series stars three toads named Rash, Zitz, and Pimple.

In the first game, the story follows the three toads as they escort Princess Angelica to her home planet using their spacecraft, the Vulture. Princess Angelica and Pimple are kidnapped by the Dark Queen, and the remaining two toads must set out on a rescue mission through outer space.

The game was so popular that it was developed into an animated television special that saw three high school kids given the ability to transform into anthropomorphic toads with superhuman strength and the ability to change their arms and legs into weapons.
