Welcome To The Hunter Association

Hunter X Hunter was first conceived as a manga series by writer/illustrator Yoshihiro Togashi. Since 1998, the series has been published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and collected in more than three dozen volumes.

The overall plot centres around Gon Freecss, a young boy who discovers that his estranged father, Ging Freecss, is a famous Hunter. In this universe, a Hunter is a professional who embarks on various adventures, such as catching criminals, tracking rare creatures, and finding treasure. Knowing this, Gon seeks to become a Hunter himself and to find his father. However, before he can achieve his aims, he must first take the Hunter Examination.

This journey brings him into contact with various fascinating characters: Kurapika (a survivor of the Kurta clan who wants to recover his kin’s scarlet-glowing eyes stolen by the Phantom Troupe), Leorio (an aspiring physician who seeks to pay for medical school using the money earned being a Hunter), Killua Zoldyck (a member of an infamous assassin family), and Hisoka (a transmuter who takes an unusual interest in Gon).

An anime adaptation of the series ran from October 1999 to March 2001, directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi and produced by Nippon Animation. In 2011, a second anime series aired. This one ran until 2014 and was followed by two theatrical films: Phantom Rouge and The Last Mission.
